Mother Odessa “Dessie” McKeller was born on June 24, 1943 to Adline Hayes in Scobey Mississippi. In her teens she moved to Chicago IL and eventually moved to Bangor MI, where she instilled strong family values and a spiritual foundation into her children. She was a strong business woman who pursued many business ventures. Namely: Stone Hill Farms, Norge Village Laundromat and T&O Dry Cleaners.
She began her walk with Christ at an early age, and she continued that glorious walk with Christ until the day of her home going. In her time as a missionary she went out into the battlefield and did the work of the Lord assisting others. She was formerly a member at Emmanuel Community Church in South Haven under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Stevenson where she faithfully served as an Usher. She was currently a member at Lily of the Valley Church in Covert under the leadership of Pastor Darryl K. Williams. She was a faithful member of the Mother’s Board at Lily of the Valley Church and took care of all of the beautiful plants that adorn the altar.
Because of her motherly wisdom and her appreciation and love for people, Mother Odessa was known to many as Mom or Mother McKeller. She spread her motherly charm and charisma to all whom she came in contact with. She was known for her cooking – especially her Butter Rolls and Sweet Potato Pies. Although her activities were limited, she had such an independent spirit that she still found ways to assist those who were in need.
